China Packaging Research & Test Center (CPRTC) is a subsidiary company of China National Packaging Corp. As a technical cooperation project of the Chinese and French governments, it was opened in 1988. Now CPRTC locates in Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area, covering an area of 40,000 square meters, it is the only state-level organization of packaging research, testing and technical service in China.

The testing labs of CPRTC consist of Transport Packaging Lab and Testing Lab of Physical & Chemical Performance of Packaging Materials. Most instruments and equipment introduced from U.S., France, Japan and other countries, advantage combination of high-quality technicians and more than 20-year-experience accumulation place the labs of CPRTC in the leading position of international testing technology. The Labs are certified by China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment(CNAS), testing reports and data issued by the labs are mutually recognized by accreditation bodies in nearly 50 countries and regions around Pacific Rim, including U.S., Canada, Japan, Korea and Australia, etc. The labs were also accredited as the National Supervision & Inspection Center of Packaging Products Quality by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the P.R.C. In 2002 the Transport Packaging Lab of CPRTC was certified by International Safe Transit Association (ISTA). Two years later, the labs joined in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), became one of its members. At present the labs have been certified by many world famous organizations or enterprises such as UL, GE, HP and NCP etc. Many enterprises of Fortune 500 and some industrial mainstay enterprises in China are stable clients of CPRTC.
In recent years CPRTC positively met the needs of the country and the industry by taking on scientific research. It successively conducted the Research on Waste Paper Utilization Technology, the Research on Serial Testing Equipment for Spray Cans and the Research on Data Monitor Equipment for Logistic Environment and many other scientific research projects, many of them received financial supports from the Ministry of Finance and special funds for new and high technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology, at the same time CPRTC associating with colleges and enterprises, conducted many cross-disciplines project research, in which many achievements won the Province and Ministry-Level Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and acquired more than 20 patents in total. Especially these years CPRTC, as a leading force of packaging industry, established nearly 100 national, industrial and corporate standards. On behalf of the country, it participated in the international standard modification, and offered suggestions of the vote of the international standard system for the country. With many-year-experience on testing, CPRTC researched and developed dozen set of packaging product testing equipment, which are widely used in manufacturing enterprises, testing institutes and colleges.
While conducting scientific research and testing business, CPRTC also actively enters market to popularize the idea of integrated packaging service and to explore new roads of packaging technical service. Relying on advanced testing equipment and logistic environment monitor, basing on precise packaging design theory and rich experience, it provided Shanghai General Motor, Airbus (China) A320 General Assembly Project, Beijing Daimler-Benz Co., Ltd. Beijing Foton Motor, Shanghai Maple, Qingdao Haier, Smith Water Heater and many famous foreign and domestic enterprises with comprehensive technical services such as packaging design and optimal design for new products, packaging material management, packaging material supply and on-site technical guidance, etc. It solves a large number of technical difficulties regarding packaging for clients and wins their confidence.
As a state-level packaging research and testing organization, CPRTC has kept close contact with many well-known foreign packaging scientific & research organizations and international organizations for a long time, it makes technical exchanges and visits almost every year with Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais (LNE) and Pira International, etc. and performs comparison experiment between labs. Annually CPRTC holds the ISTA China Packaging Symposium, etc. These frequent international exchanges make CPRTC constantly acquire cutting-edge international packaging technical information, keep pace with the most advanced packaging testing technology in the world, so as to upgrade CPRTC’s international status and influence.
Relying on the important position in the industry, CPRTC plays an important role in the packaging industry. CPRTC is the dean member organization of Transportation Committee of China Packaging Federation (TCCPF). The director of CPRTC is the dean member of TCCPF, the secretariat of TCCPF is located in CPRTC. Meanwhile CPRTC is the exclusive service provider of ISTA, responsible for handling all works of ISTA in China, CPRTC is also an important member of International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) and won the host right to hold its international conference in China for the first time.
