As a national research unit, the center has been following the most advanced packaging technologies in the world, collecting the latest packaging technologies and information of developed countries. The center has kept a close long-term relationship with well-known packaging research institutions and international organizations of foreign countries. Almost every year, the center has technological communication and visit each other with international famous packaging testing and consultation institutions, such as LNE and Pira, and meanwhile, inter-laboratory comparison is held, so as to exchange packaging testing standards, methods, laws and regulations with each other. The center also acquires the latest technical information through attending international conferences and exhibition fairs.

The center also joined the international organizations such as ISTA, LAPRI, NMFTA and ASTM and actively participates in the activities launched by the associations, and gradually became the most active member in China and is highly acknowledged by all the associations. Since 2002, the center started to sponsor the international packaging technology forum every year. It invites famous experts in the international packaging circle to attend the forum to have face-to-face communication with domestic packaging engineers and technicians. The scale of the forum grows and became the brand conference as more and more professional are aware of it. At the same time, along with the deepening relationship with ISTA, ISTA realized the center’s appeal in the industry and decided that since 2006, the annual autumn symposium of ISTA would be held in China by the center, which has equal importance as the annual forum held in American every spring. The symposium is effective in promoting the serial standards of ISTA in China. In 2009, the center beat many Chinese members and won the bid for the 17th IAPRI World Conference on Packaging in 2010. This is the first time that the conference will be held in China. There will be nearly 300 people to attend the conference from over 20 countries ad regions. It will be a grand gathering of the international packaging technologies family.

Additionally, as a member of ISO, the center has been active in participating in related works of international standard revision, and votes and makes proposals for the international standard system representing China every year, and thus has made contributions for integrating itself into the world system of packaging standardization and promoting the progress of packaging industry of China.

Through the above-mentioned international communications, the center has not only built a platform for the packaging industry of China to acquire the latest international technologies and information, to strive to sync with internationally latest packaging technologies, but also lifted the center’s international status and influence and accelerated the internationalization of the center.
